Kedai Makanan Tepi Sungai @ Taiping, Perak

Prior to our trip, we came across some online articles about having seafood in Taiping, and apparently Kuala Sepetang (formerly known as Port Weld) is quite famous for its fishermen village and its seafood. The drive from Taiping town center to Kuala Sepetang took us about 45 minutes, as we passed by the charcoal factory and oil plantations along the way. If you have been to Pulau Ketam or Tanjung Sepat, Kuala Sepetang is more or less similar to them.

Once we got down from our car, the smell of fishes and the water accompanied by the breeze gave us a warm welcome to the village. The restaurant was pretty hard to find as it was away from the main road. Also, there were so many restaurants with the identical name, Restoran Tepi Sungai / Restoran Kuala Sepetang. We ended up calling the owner, and he was kind enough to lead us the way there.

The restaurant is located in an alley, beside it is a seafood packaging warehouse.
Opposite the restaurant there's a classic petrol station.
Entrance of the restaurant. Very well hidden.
The restaurant is located beside the river, that's why it was called Kedai Makanan Tepi Sungai (Restaurant beside the river)! Haha. We went straight into the lookout point as we were so eager to enjoy the fisherman village and riverside view. On the way we passed by some yummy seafood on display.

On the way into the lookout point, wide selection of seafood was on display.

As we settled down at our seat, we began to order our dinner: Cold Taufu (冻豆腐), Fried Lettuce (清炒玻璃生菜) and Salt Pepper Mantis Prawn (椒盐虾羔). Really loved the taufu as it was so soft and yummy! We knew it was definitely handmade, without the taste of Gypsum powder (石膏粉), which is really common in soy products. The lettuce was up to the standard, but we guess we made the wrong choice, having the mantis prawn in pepper and salt as it was too salty for us. Regretted why we did not take the other options, such as 宫保(fried with chilli and spices), 奶油 (butter), 咸蛋 (salted egg). The waiter asked us which way we would like the mantis prawn, and this is when everyone will need to take the best option.

When the bill came, we were extremely shocked! Perhaps we were so used to KL's seafood price and we were expecting to pay around RM20+ per pax. It turned out that the amount we had to pay was RM35.90 for all the dishes, 2 white rice and 2 chinese tea. (Around RM17.95 per pax). Our mood elevated instantly! To sum it all, we would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who plans to visit Taiping. Good value for money and awesome environment. One thing must remember is to find the correct place though. Too many imitations.

Beautiful view from the restaurant
