Brinchang Night Market (Pasar Malam) @ Cameron Highlands, Pahang

At Cameron Highlands, you can hardly find nightlife activities as there were no major shopping malls, cinema or pubs around. One of the activities that can kill your boredom, city bugs, is the Night Market, or called 'Pasar Malam' in Bahasa Malaysia. Almost every one who comes to Cameron Highlands will definitely pay a visit to this place, and we thought we should too! The major difference between the Brinchang Night Market and the KL Night Market is, of course, the heat and the temperature! In KL, at the end of your Pasar Malam shopping, you will be covered with sweat and smell which are totally unbearable. In Brinchang, occasional cool breezes attacked us down the spine. We ended our Pasar Malam visit with zero sweat and jackets on.

Getting to the Night Market was a pain. We departed from Copthorne Hotel at around 6.30pm but we reached there around 7.20pm! In fact, the distance between the hotel and the Night Market area was only 3.7km and we can reach there within 10 minutes. Thanks to the traffic crawl that started from Kea Farm. Oh and some inconsiderate drivers who love to cut queue.

Look at the cars~~
Parking is scarce in that area, so it is always better to park at a further area and walk to the site. The weather was cool after all. A lot of people may have came for shopping, but we chose to have our first night's dinner here. We walked from one end to the other end, while spotting for good food that can keep us warm and full under the cold weather. We also saw quite a number of stalls selling pillows and cushions, which costed only RM15.00 each! We opted to spend our money on Cameron specialties though.

Our first stop: Kuih Brinchang. By looking at the name, we can definitely assume that this type of pancake is only available in Brinchang, Cameron Highlands. The pancake had 3 types of filling: Corn, Kaya and Coconut. Being adventurous, we tried all of them, and bought 6 (2 of each flavour) for only RM3.00. Corn and Kaya tasted quite ordinary, and both of us loved the coconut filled pancakes the most.

Probably this is why the Kaya and Corn filled pancakes tasted normal

Accompanied by the cold breeze and hungry stomachs, we moved on to our next stop. In Cameron Highlands, you can see sweet potatoes being sold everywhere. When we wondered what is so special with those, we knew when we tasted them. The sweet potatoes were awesome! Absolutely natural, but sweet and tasty. They did not have the starchy feeling that we often find in some sweet potatoes sold in KL. 1 bag of those costed us RM5.00. From the same stall, we bought Corn in the Cup for RM3.50, and an extremely large piece of fried chicken chop for RM8.00. When we say extremely large, it meant the size of two adult palms! We did not capture photos of those, as our hands were too full with the food stuffs we just bought.

As we started to become full (all thanks to the extremely large fried chicken), we continued our journey looking for more Cameron Highlands specialty. And then we came across this. Honeycomb with pure natural honey. We tried a piece for RM2.00. The honey was thick and sweet and yummy, but the honeycomb was.. What I can say is, it was a piece of natural chewing gum! It managed to keep our teeth busy for at least 15 minutes before we hardly swallowed that piece of beewax. So sorry bees, we ate your home!

People mountain people sea~~
Then, we caught hold of our all-time favourite Pasar Malam food, the fried mushroom. Didn't manage to take photos of those, as our hands were too busy holding the foods. We had fried Kimcam mushroom and Oyster mushrooms as snacks. Those costed us RM5.00. Tasted better than those in KL, as the mushrooms were fresh and crispy. And we had more mushrooms than flour to bite in. Those in KL are the opposite.

Sweet potato balls is a specialty of Cameron Highlands too. As we had the real sweet potato fruit, we gave up on this. The colour looks so attractive though.
As we almost reached the end of the Night Market, we came across this stall, selling sea coconuts. We regularly drink sea coconut juice to kill the hot weather, but we have never came across a real sea coconut fruit. Out of curiosity, we bought a fruit for RM5.00. However, we immediately regretted after that. The whole fruit only had a few pieces of flesh, and out of our expectation, it was not sweet at all but tasteless! So those sea coconut juice we always see are all sugars. Blerghhh~~

The flesh: 1 has straw on it and another has spoon on it.
Finally, we came to the last stall of the Night Market. The hawker was selling big and juicy strawberries in trays. And guess what, 1 tray of strawberries only costed RM10.00! To cure our thirstiness, we bought a stick of Strawberry Lolly for RM1.00. There goes our trip to the Night Market, with full stomachs and great satisfaction.

For those who are price-conscious, this is the summary of our expenditure at the Brinchang Night Market:
