We did not sign up any packages or tours, and it turned out that we had the best experience, as we got to interact with the locals, utilise the public transport and admire the places of interested slowly and steadily. Hopefully this helps those who are planning a trip to Taipei soon! :)
Main transport: Our feet (We broke our records by walking more than 25,000 steps per day! Kaki patah T_T), Taipei MRT, Bus and other public transport available in Taipei.
Before you go... Remember to visit the Taiwan Tourism Bureau in KL.. Bring along your flight ticket copy and hotel booking copy and they will give you some freebies in return! We visited the office, collected some maps and got our freebies: a pouch, 悠遊卡 with NTD50 credit and some free vouchers.

Note: 悠遊卡 is really a very useful invention! It works similarly to Malaysia's Touch 'n' Go card, except its coverage is wider and provides more convenience. Reload kiosks are basically in every MRT station and other locations.
Day 1
- Depart from Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) at 10.00am via AirAsia flight D7 372.
- Arrived at Taoyuan International Airport, Taipei at 2.40pm.
- There are many ways to travel to the city from the airport, we opted for the Shuttle Bus + High Speed Rail (高鐵) route as it only took about 40 minutes (20 minutes Shuttle Bus, 20 minutes HSR). Comparatively, taking the Express Bus (客運) needed about 2 hours. Total cost for the journey was NTD 30 (Shuttle Bus) + NTD 175 (High Speed Rail) = NTD 205 per person.
- Travelled to Beitou (北投).
- Checked in at Beitou Chyuan Du (泉都) Spring Resort.
- Explored more about Beitou area, 7-Eleven and had dinner at 粟家牛肉麵.
- Went back to hotel and rest.
Day 2
- Explore around the Beitou (北投) area. Had breakfast at 北投市场.
- Visited Beitou Park (北投公園), Beitou Hot Spring Museum (北投溫泉博物館), Thermal Valley (地熱谷), Katagalan Cultural Center (凱特格蘭文物館)
- Headed over Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf (淡水漁人碼頭)
- Visited Tamsui Lover's Bridge (淡水情人橋), Lover's Tower (情人塔)
- Visited World Chocolate Wonderland (世界巧克力夢公園)
- Travelled to Taipei Main Station (台北車站) for check-in at Main Inn (梅樓驛站)
- Visited the famous Shilin Night Market (士林夜市)
Day 3
- Breakfast in 7-Eleven Taipei
- Took MRT to JianTan (劍潭) to board the Red 5 public bus (紅5路綫公車) up to YangMingShan (陽明山)
- Visited several destinations on YangMingShan - ErZiPing (二子坪), Xiaoyoukeng (小油坑), Qingtiangang (擎天崗草原)
- Travelled via bus back to Taipei, visited Chengpin Book Store (誠品書店)
- Had 216 Yuyuan Store (216粉圓大王)
Day 4
- Breakfast in Taipei
- Took the Taiwan Rail (台鐵) to Ruifang (瑞芳) and bus to Jiufen (九份)
- Headed over to Jinguashi (金瓜石) in the afternoon and visited the Gold Museum (黃金博物館)
- Visited The Golden Waterfall (黃金瀑布)
- Headed back to Taipei and visited Ximending (西門町)
Day 5
- Breakfast in Taipei (老蔡水煎包 & 溫州大餛飩)
- Started our day of museums and cultural heritage visits, first stop at Taipei 228 Memorial Park (台北二二八紀念公園)
- Visited National Museum of Taiwan (國立台灣博物館)
- Visited 自由廣場 & National Cheong Kai-Shek Memorial Hall (中正紀念堂)
- Visited National Palace Museum (國立故宮博物院)
- Headed over to Taipei 101
Day 6
- Travelled via MRT to Maokong (貓空), then visited the Taipei Zoo (台北市立動物園)
- Explored Maokong area using the Maokong Cable Car (貓空纜車)
- Headed back to Taipei and enjoyed food at NingXia Night Market (寧夏夜市)
Day 7
- Boarded 國光客運 to Yehliu (野柳)
- Strolled around the Yehliu area for photography
- Visited Yehliu Geological Park (野柳地質公園)
- Headed back to Taipei and visited Longshan Temple (龍山寺)
- Went for shopping for souvenirs around Taipei
- Headed back to Taipei and had dinner at 京鼎小館. Best 小籠包 ever tasted in my life!
Day 8
- Visited the Miniature Museum (袖珍博物館)
- Had lunch at Taipei McDonald's and managed to try their Pork Burger!
- Left heavy-heartedly to the Taoyuan International Airport via the HSR
- Returned to KLIA2 via AirAsia D7 371.
