Kea Farm @ Cameron Highlands, Pahang

Our last day in Cameron Highlands trip started with a visit to Kea Farm. It was actually a morning market (Pasar Pagi), which sells local agricultural products. The location was not far from our hotel, Copthorne Hotel. Parking is scarce at that area, so happened that we went there on a Monday morning so the traffic was not that bad. Would like to advise those who are staying at Copthorne Hotel to walk to the market area, instead of driving. It should be within 10 minutes of walking distance. While enjoying the cool breeze, you don't need to worry about parking. Why not? =)

The main objective we went to the market is to buy Dragon Beard Veg (龙须菜) and some strawberries as souvenirs. These two things are the ones which we don't always see in KL after all. There were also stalls that sell keychains, corns, sweet potatoes and many many other veggies. All veggies looked so fresh! Most probably after harvesting the veggies, they went to Kea Farm and sell there directly.

Since our main focus was on the Dragon Beard Veg and strawberries, we only visited a few stalls to compare prices. While choosing the Dragon Beard Veg, we did not have the knowledge on how to choose them, and eventually after calling back home asking for help from parents, we got them right! Here's a small tip to share: To determine the freshness of the Dragon Beard Veg, look at the 'beards' (the vines). If it is light greenish and soft, then it passes the QC test. XD

Veggies sold here at Kea Farm were dirt cheap!! Guess what. We bought 5 boxes of strawberries for only RM20.00! Which means only RM4.00 per box! And the sizes of the strawberries were really HUGE. Veggies here were of a standard price (maybe they had a committee to control prices), RM5.00 for 3 bunches of the Dragon Beard Veg. NSK occasionally imports these veggies, and 1 bunch was sold at RM2.00. Hmmm. Look at the difference.

If you are looking for fresh veggies as souvenirs to buy before leaving Cameron Highlands, Kea Farm is definitely a place you must visit. The prices of veggies and strawberries were cheaper than those in the Brinchang Night Market, and they were fresher too!
