Restoran Ho Poh @ Puchong, Selangor

It's been a long long while since we blogged! Due to work and personal commitments, we have been spending our no-life lives for almost 1 year. Here we are, sharing our latest visit to Restoran Ho Poh in Puchong. Hopefully, we will have more posts coming up in the near future!

Restoran Ho Poh was no luxury eatery, where its interior was decorated with ancient Chinese wallpapers and the furniture reminded us of the old-school grandma houses. Good enough for a usual place to hang out and to eat. The front of the shop already indicated the food sold by the restaurant - where a huge wording of Lei Cha in Mandarin was incorporated with the ancient Chinese patterned wallpaper. Quite easy to identify though.
Huge wordings at the shop front - 擂茶 (Lei Cha)
Old-school interior and furniture
擂茶 (Lei Cha) is a traditional Chinese Hakka cuisine that is always seen to bring substantial health benefits, such as weight loss, reduce constipation, antioxidants and so on. This is mainly because Lei Cha is made of different kinds of vegetables, nuts, and tofu. The cuisine is normally served with a bowl of rice, and a bowl of soup that is made up of green ingredients - tea and sesame, some even add basil and mint within.

Meat-lovers like JsKee might find the cuisine too "greenish", thus not many people can enjoy it. However, if you are looking for a healthy lifestyle, Lei Cha is definitely a Chinese dish that you should not miss. We randomly came across this restaurant as we wanted to have lunch in Puchong area. The name of the shop, Ho Poh, resembles 河婆 - the district in China where Lei Cha was invented.

JsKee, who is not a fan of Lei Cha, ordered the Minced Meat Fried Rice (RM8.60), however, in his opinion, the taste was too bland. Probably because the restaurant is used to cooking more healthily, thus, less salt, less MSG. Cmun on the other hand, made the Lei Cha set healthier, by opting for the Brown Rice Lei Cha set (RM9.00). We added Chrysanthemum Herbal Tea (RM2.00) each, which was under the recommendation of the shop owner.

The ingredients were pre-mixed with the rice. Ingredients are quite rich and the taste was just nice.
There are not many Lei Cha restaurants around in KL, we only tried two of them. For Lei Cha, the essence will be the soup, whether it is rich and creamy based on one's liking. In our opinion, Restoran Ho Poh's Lei Cha soup was quite fragrant and the taste of tea was quite rich, same goes for the rice and the condiments, where it was not too salty nor too plain.
